To fix a more serious snag, work the fiber back into the carpet, using a pointed, narrow tool, such as a yarn needle.
Pull gently on the loop until it is a little longer than the neighboring loops.
Repeat the action with some of the surrounding loops until each one is about the same height and blends into the rest of the carpet.
Remove a heavily damaged section with sharp shears, leaving the padding underneath untouched.
Using the snippedout piece as a template, cut a new piece of carpet from an area that is out of sight, such as underneath a bed or at the inside corner of a closet.
Alternatively, purchase a matching sample from the carpet store.
Glue the replacement section into place, using carpet glue, and hide the seam by blending the fibers at the edge of the new piece with the surrounding, preexisting fibers.
Let the carpet dry, then vacuum as normal.
