The last think you want to do is melt your carpet!
Now i do think that i have heard it all.
This works well, especially in church carpeting after a wedding ceremony or whatever.
I just folded paper toweling three times and a hot iron and repeat until gone.
First try to remove as much excess wax off by scrapping.
Ive used the iron with simple paper towels.

Just use some mineral spirits.

I used a damp wash cloth and an iron.
The steam makes all of the wax soften and stick to the wash cloth.
You have to toss out the wash cloth so use an old one.
It works like a charm.
Get a wide mouth glass jar.
Place in microwave and get boiling hot.
Place a hard thin cover on it and turn over.
Place on top of the wax in the carpet.
Pull the hard cover out and push down on the jar to seal against floor.
Then carefully slip hard cover back under and lift off floor without spilling to much water.
The scoulding water melts the wax, it floats to the top and when you reseal you remove and tip the jar up.
A little practice and it works like a dream.
Alcohol brings it right ou.
